Description

The Data Product Manager is responsible for collaborating with engineering teams, business stakeholders, and external clients to define and execute the data product roadmap. The incumbent will also drive data governance best practices, oversee production data support, and ensure analytics capabilities align with business objectives. The incumbent will be hands-on and working across various aspects of product management, data analysis, and business analysis.

  • Be a strong communicator, capable of articulating complex data concepts in a business-friendly manner.
  • Provide direction to internal departments regarding process changes, plan changes, and status updates.

  • Address processing delays, quality issues, and other problems head-on.
  • View challenges and obstacles as opportunities to improve.
  • Support internal teams by ensuring the availability of high-quality data for reporting and analytics.
  • Partner with business stakeholders and the Product Team to define key metrics and develop meaningful insights.
  • Ensure timely production data support, helping troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues.

BE EXPERTS

  • Lead and manage data governance initiatives, ensuring adherence to best practices for data integrity, privacy, and security.
  • Establish and enforce data quality standards and best practices for data management.
  • Act as a key advocate for metadata management, data dictionaries, and data lineage to ensure consistency across the organization.

  • Act with integrity and honesty in every interaction with clients, co-workers, and vendors.
  • Acknowledge and learn from mistakes, and help team members to do the same.
  • Define and manage the data product backlog, ensuring that features are well-defined, prioritized, and aligned with business goals.
  • Respond to escalated issues and communicate resolution well.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong business analyst and data analyst skills, with the ability to work closely with stakeholders to define requirements.
  • Solid understanding of data governance best practices and experience managing data quality initiatives.
  • Experience working with SQL and Python for data analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work with engineering teams to ensure that data solutions align with business objectives.
  • Prior experience in a Scrum Agile environment, managing backlogs and sprint planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data topics in a clear, concise manner.
  • Comfortable in a small-company environment, wearing multiple hats and adapting to changing priorities.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Product Manager, preferably in a data-focused role.
  • Experience working with employee benefits data (health and retirement) is a plus.
